Medical Staff

Upon admission to North Valley Hospital, each patient is assigned a specialized care team. The care team is led by a physician who works with the patient, family, and other caregivers to develop and implement an individualized treatment plan, and to carefully monitor the patient's progress.

Key Attending Staff at North Valley Hospital

Hospitalists:
Stan “Bob” Worley, M.D., received his medical degree from the University of Arkansas and completed his internal medicine residency at Tripler Army Medical Center in Hawaii.  He served as Chief of Internal Medicine at Kenner Army Medical Center in Virginia, Assistant Chief of Internal Medicine and Chief of Emergency Medicine at Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center, Colorado.  He recently received a Partnership in Quality Award from the Colorado Health Care Association.  Dr. Worley is Board Certified in Internal Medicine.

Michael Last, M.D., received his medical degree from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine, completed his internal medicine internship at Louisiana State University and returned to the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine for the completion of his residency.  Dr. Last served as the Medical Director of the Hospitalist Program at the Delta Regional Medical Center in Mississippi prior to joining to North Valley in 2005, where he now serves as the Medical Director of our Medically Complex Unit. 

Pulmonologists:
Robert Benkert, M.D., received his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati, completed his internal medicine residence at Northwestern University in Chicago, his pulmonary medicine fellowship from George Washington University Medical Center and his critical care medicine fellowship from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.  He completed a sleep disorders fellowship at Stanford University Medical Center and is a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians.  He’s Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care Medicine.  Dr. Benkert is the Medical Director of the long-term ventilator patient unit at North Valley.

John Buckley, M.D., received his medical degree from Rush College of Medicine and completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.  He completed his pulmonary and critical care medicine fellowship at the University of Illinois.  He is Board Certified in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine.  Dr. Buckley, along with his associate, Dr. McClellan, has been the Medical Director for Respiratory Care at North Valley since 1986.

Michael McClellan, M.D., received his medical degree from Abraham Lincoln School of Medicine in Illinois and completed his internal medicine residency and pulmonary and critical care fellowship at the University of Colorado.   He is Board Certified in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine and in Internal Medicine.  Dr. McClellan serves as Medical Director of the Intensive Care Unit at North Suburban Medical Center.  He previously served as Co-Director of the Medical Intensive Care Unit at Denver General Hospital.  Dr. McClellan, along with his associate, Dr. Buckley, has been the Medical Director for Respiratory Care at North Valley since 1986.

Neurologist
Kamasamudram Ravilochan, M.D., received his medical degree from Jurnool Medical College in India and completed his residency and fellowship in neurology at the University of Colorado.  Dr. Ravi serves as Assistant Clinical Professor of Rehab Medicine at the University of Colorado and has served as Chief of Neurology at St. Anthony Central Hospital.  He has been the Director of the Acute Neurorehabilitation Program at North Valley since 1994.

Nephrologists
Michael Anger, M.D., received his medical degree and completed his internal medicine residency at Hahnemann Medical College in Philadelphia.  He completed his fellowship in nephrology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.  He’s a clinical professor of medicine, division of renal diseases, at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.  He is board Certified in Internal Medicine and he’s been president and held other offices at the National Kidney Foundation Colorado.  He’s been awarded numerous research grants to study metabolic bone disease and renal disease.

Matthew Esson, M.D., received his medical degree, completed his internal medicine residency and his fellowship in nephrology all at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.  He is currently an instructor in renal disease at the University as well.  He is Board Certified in internal medicine and nephrology.

Infectious Disease
Jeffrey A. DesJardin, M.D., received his medical degree from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.  Among his honors is the Edward H. Kass Award for Clinical Excellence from the Massachusetts Infectious Disease Society.  He has held numerous administrative posts in internal medicine, medical staff quality improvement and pharmacy and therapeutics at area hospitals.  He has served as the Physician Advisor to the Infection Control Committee at North Valley Hospital since 1999.  Dr. DesJardin is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and in Infectious Disease.

Pain Management
Peter N. Reusswig, M.D., received his medical degree from New York Medical College and completed his anesthesiology residency at the University of California Medical Center at Los Angeles.  He serves as Medical Director of the Pain Management Center at St. Anthony North Hospital and has served as the Medical Director of the Pain Management Center at North Valley Hospital since 1999.  Dr. Reusswig is Board Certified in Anesthesiology.

Paul S. Leo, M.D., received his medical degree from State University of New York Downstate School of Medicine and completed a surgery internship at New York Medical College, Lincoln Hospital Center, an anesthesia residence at The Mount Sinai School of Medicine and Medical Center.  Dr. Leo completed a pain management fellowship at Our Lady of Mercy Medical Center in New York.  He has served as the Director of Pain Management Services at St. Anthony Central Hospital and has been a member of the North Valley Hospital staff since 2001.  Dr. Leo is Board Certified in Anesthesiology and Pain Management.

Psychiatry
Geoffrey B. Heron, M.D., received his medical degree from the University of Chicago School of Medicine and completed his residence in psychiatry at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.  He was named a Distinguished Fellow by the American Psychiatric Association in 2003.  He is the Medical Director of the Adult Psychiatric Program at North Valley Hospital. He is Board Certified in Psychiatry and Neurology.

Erwin L. Mozer, M.D., received his medical degree from the University of Louisville, completed his psychiatric residence at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and his psychiatric fellowship at the Colorado State Hospital.  Dr. Mozer is the Medical Director of the GeroPsychiatric Program at North Valley Hospital.  He is Board Certified in Psychiatry and Neurology with added qualifications in Geriatric Psychiatry.

President of the Medical Staff
Jonathan H. Woodcock, M.D., received his medical degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine, completed his residency in neurology at Massachusetts General Hospital and his residence in psychiatry at McLean Hospital in Massachusetts.  His clinical fellowships in both neurology and psychiatry were both completed at Harvard Medical School.  He is Associate Clinical Professor of Neurology at University of Colorado Health Sciences Center School of Medicine.  Dr. Woodcock is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Psychiatry and Neurology.
